The Leadhead Series (dressings)

The Leadhead, originally designed for the large, deep and swift rivers of Scandinavia, has since been proven in many other rivers and still waters all over the world. The bug also worked well as an excellent shrimp imitation in many saltwater locations as well. I never travel without a good selection of Leadheads

 

The Kvennan special  

Hook: Daiichi 1560 size 6, 2110 size 10, 1710 size 6 and 8

The Kvennan Special was designed by Lars and became the first fly in my nymph collection.

Thread: Uni-thread, brown or tan
Underbody: Two layers of leadwire
Tail:: A bunch of wild pig hairs
Ribbing Fine gold wire
Body: Fly-rite dubbing no 8 and 3 mixed in equal proportions
Hackle: Brown soft
Thorax: Beaver under-fur
Head: Tying thread

 

Lars grayling bug

The first pattern in this series I designed myself.

Hook:Daiichi 1560 size 6, 2110 size 10, 1710 size 6 and 8
Thread: Uni-thread 8/0, brown or tan
Underbody: Two layers of leadwire
Tail: Speckled tail or back fibres from a partridge wind as collar
Ribbing: Fine gold tinsel
Body: Fly-rite dubbing no 8 and 3 mixed in equal proportions
Bodyhackle: Tail feather or long back feather from a partridge wound as collar
Thorax: Rabbit fur dubbed and well picked-out
Head: Black foam

 

Lost Caddis  

My early imitation of a cassed caddis can be seen as the prototype for the leadhead.

Hook: PartridgeDaiichi 1560 size 6, 2110 size 10, 1710 size 6 and 8
Thread: Uni-thread, brown or tan 8/0
Underbody: Two layers of leadwire
Tag: Green fluorescent Flexibody (4 turns)
Tail/Legs: Speckled back feather from a partridge wound as collar
Ribbing: Gold wire
Body: Rabbit fur or squirrel, dubbed and well picked out
