Amazing snorkelling experience in Belize (part 3)

After a little break we moved to Shark Ray Ally but my seasickness only got worse and worse and I had serious vomit pressure as soon I lifted up my head. Sharks were all around us, but I really was not in the mood to jump into the water. It was sad because this was one of the most amazing and spectacular snorkelling trips I wanted to experience. But it’s all a part of the adventure I guess. While Ina was swimming between dozens of nurse sharks I tried to take some pictures from the boat. Luckily Chris knew how to use my older camera in its underwater housing and continued to use it on my behalf.

Beautiful capture of Ina swimming between the nurse sharks. This gives a good few on the sizes too.
Sharks and many other species everywhere

I think the the most gently sharks from all

For Ina it was her most impressive snorkelling trip ever. All she kept saying once she was back in the boat after another 35 minutes of snorkelling was: UNBELIEVABLE… UNREAL… FANTASTIC… BRILLIANT.  I felt really happy for her, and we really enjoyed the pleasure and the experience together, especially her close encounters with the sharks. The pictures Chris took were really great and I couldn’t have done better myself. Because I stayed feeling nauseous we decided to go back around 1pm. Once back in the resort it took almost three hours before I started to feel a little better so it was a real nasty one indeed, and the flu had become a little worse, so after dinner and a few honey-lemon teas, I went to bed quite early.

After staying at Ramon’s Village Resort we realised that we were actually at La Isla Bonita (“the beautiful island”). As far as I know, Madonna intended her song, La Isla Bonita, to be a tribute to the “beauty and mystery of Latin American people”. I also read that the song was previously written as a lament for the town of San Pedro on the island of Ambergris Caye in Belize. It was first offered to Michael Jackson for his album Bad, but he turned it down. While working with Patrick Leonard on her True Blue album, Madonna accepted it in Jackson’s place and wrote the song’s lyrics and melody, for which she earned some co-writing credit. The title and first line of the song seem to many to refer to the town of San Pedro, which has since adopted the song’s title as the town’s nickname.
